1st Diagnosis Heart Attack & 1st Major Heart Surgery Insurance Policy
Underwritten by United Teacher Associates Insurance Company

Why Think About Heart Attack and Major Heart Surgery?
In every year since 1900, cardiovascular disease accounted for more deaths than any other single cause or group of causes of death in the United States.1 Coronary heart disease is the single largest killer of American males and females.1 This year, an estimated 700,000 Americans will have a new coronary attack and about 500,000 will have a recurrent attack. It is estimated that an additional 175,000 silent first heart attacks occur each year.1

Today, your chances of surviving a heart attack are greater than ever before because of advances in prevention and treatments. However, these non-medical and other out-of-pocket expenses can be overwhelming.

The 2005 overall estimated cost for cardiovascular disease totaled $393.5 billion.  $241.9 billion (62%) was for direct medical expenses, but more than one-third of this amount, $151.6 billion (38%), was for non-medical expenses (lost productivity due to morbidity and mortality).2
